The increasing number of coal seam gas projects in the Surat Basin Region form part of a larger boom in the Australian LNG industry, which has A$200 billion worth of projects that are expected to make Australia the world’s second-largest LNG exporter by 2015.

Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) is the process of gasifying coal in it’s natural place by injecting an oxidant, such as air, enriched air or oxygen together with steam into the coal seam. As the reaction heats up to ~1000 degrees celcius the  Synthesis Gas, or Syngas, is created and captured in a production well to be transferred to the surface.
