The Surat Basin Corporation (SBC) is a not-for-profit partnership of government, business and community organisations for the purpose of promoting sustainable development in the Surat Basin region.
The Surat Basin Regional Development Corporation was formed in 2006 as an output of a Western Downs Regional Organisation of Councils working group to assist the region capture economic opportunities that were expected from developments stimulated by growth in the energy sector in the region.
In 2010 both Maranoa and Western Downs Regional Councils decided to partner with the SBC, acknowledging the significance of our status and recognising that Corporation is an organisation capable of delivering positive outcomes across all Regional Council boundaries in the Surat Basin.
As a Regional Development Organisation, we also enjoy a close working relationship with both Federal and State Government departments, in particular the Queensland Government’s Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI) whom we work with to deliver projects to communities across the Darling Downs – Surat region that align with the Government’s and our strategies.
